Not everyone wants a firm bed. Some sleepers want the surface to give a little — to feel the mattress meet them rather than resist them. The Verdant Pocket Spring Mattress is built for that: a genuinely medium-soft feel (around 4.5–5 on a 10-point scale, where 10 is firmest), delivered by a quilted gel memory foam comfort layer sitting over a responsive pocketed coil core.
It's a straightforward, honest construction — no gimmick materials, no inflated layer count. Just the right amount of cushioning, over springs that actually do the work.
Medium-soft is the sweet spot for side sleepers: enough give at the shoulder and hip to keep pressure off the joint, with enough support underneath to keep the spine level. It also suits lighter sleepers who find firm mattresses feel like they're lying on the bed rather than in it.
If you sleep on your back or stomach, or you weigh over about 230 lb (105 kg), you'll probably want something firmer — this one is designed to be gentle.
The top of the mattress isn't a flat slab of foam — it's quilted, which changes how it feels and how it lasts:
Because these three are quilted into one panel rather than laid loosely, the surface stays even — no lumps, no drift toward the middle of the bed.
Underneath that sits 3 cm of #25 high-resilience foam, which acts as the hand-off layer: it takes the load from the comfort layers and spreads it across the springs, so you get cushioning without a "sinking through" feeling.
The support core is a full set of individually pocketed coils made from 2.0 mm wire (roughly 14 gauge). Each spring is wrapped in its own fabric pocket and moves independently, which does three things:
Standard pocket spring mattresses are weakest at the perimeter. This one addresses that directly: three rows of heavier 2.2 mm coils (roughly 13 gauge) run around all four sides.
In practice that means you can sit on the edge to put your shoes on without the side collapsing, and you can use the full width of the mattress instead of staying in the middle. It also helps the bed keep its shape over years of use.
This is a single-sided (no-turn) mattress: the comfort layers are built into the top only, and the base is a non-slip structural layer. There's no flipping schedule to remember.
What you should do is rotate it 180° (head to foot) every 3–6 months for the first couple of years. It takes two minutes and it evens out wear remarkably well.
Your mattress is compressed and roll-packed into a single reinforced export carton — far easier to get through a doorway, up a flight of stairs or around a tight corner than a fully built mattress.
To set it up:
A slight new-mattress smell is normal for the first day or two — ventilate the room and it dissipates.
How soft is "medium soft"? About 4.5–5 out of 10. It has a clearly cushioned first touch but doesn't swallow you — good for side sleepers and lighter body weights.
Do I need to flip it? No. It's single-sided. Just rotate it head-to-foot every few months.
Will I feel my partner moving? Less than on a traditional open-coil spring mattress. Individually pocketed springs absorb most movement before it travels.
How long does it take to expand? Sleepable within hours; full height in 24–72 hours.
What frame do I need? Any platform bed, slatted frame, box spring or adjustable base. The non-slip base helps it stay put.
